Over the last five years or so, my consumption of new music has dropped pretty dramatically. I blame the iPod, which has led me to spend most of my time with my own music collection when I used to listen to the radio and hear new stuff.
So I want to know what CDs were released in the last year that you think would make my aural world a better place. Tell me why if you can.
Thanks in advance.

CDs???
I bought RadioHead's 'CD' last year, and I think that's it. Pretty much listen to Radio Paradise all the time. My own music is relegated to the (rare) long road trips, but even them, we often listen to podcasts or books on cd (ripped to mp3).Anonymous

a good source of new music is the solid steel radio show if you like beats. They've been going for about 10 years i think - all downloadable and podcasted.as for artists, here's some suggestions (unordered) (not all great all the time, but all have new releases)
four tet (folktronica)
burial (dubstep)
the presets
lcd soundsystem
the battles (warp label)
tunng (folktronica)

new music
I'm in a similar position, where I once listened to triple j and heard a lot of new music, but these days I prefer to hear the same old triple j presenters who are now on the ABC AM dial.I go to http://www.metacritic.com/music/bests/20

Try last.fm
I've found some interesting bands in the past with http://www.last.fm/. You can enter some songs/bands you listen to and you'll get a list of similar music. (Some music players can also publish music you're currently listening to to your account on last.fm)March 12 2008, 05:30:39 UTC 4 years ago

Re: Try last.fm
>my last.fm feed mostly consists of) might not be the best representation of my interests as a wholeSo try and describe it - I'm curious.
I have at least a 75% crossover with stuff on your LastFM playlist even including the token tracks from your childhood that parents used to expose us to as youngsters (stuff like Simon and Garfunkel, ELO, Gerry Rafferty etc.) Nice to see stuff like PWEI itself showing up.
As for dancing bumper to bumper - some other stuff which I assume is in there somewhere:
Haysi Fantayzee - Shiny Shiny
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Poodle Rockin'
2nu - This is Ponderous
Blind Melon - No rain
Camper van Beethoven (or Status Quo) - Pictures of Matchstick Men
Apollo 440 - Krupa
Mr Oizo - Flat beat
The Wonderstuff - Size of a cow
and maybe even some Bis, Thrill Kill Kult, Sheep on Drugs...?
I'm in the same scenario as you - the only things that we've bought lately would be Muse, Sigur Ros and Hybrid's most recent album I think?
Incidentally if you're not aware of them, google for this:
'Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy (High Quality)' and watch the corresponding top youtube link, they might fit your ecclectic taste as well.
